In 350 B.C, the great Greek philosopher, Aristotle listed the most useful known breeds of dogs and among them was the Molossian, a large powerful dog which has no doubt, played its part in the chain of evolution to our present day Mastiff breeds notably Neapolitan Mastiff."Firma" stands for "Signature" in Italian.Thus "Signature of Molossoid" a.k.a present day Neapolitan Mastiff stands closest in meaning with our kennel name "Firma di Molossoid" or its abbreviation "F di M".
The idea of breeding and acquiring breeding stock came when I acquired my first Neapolitan Mastiff Puppy.To that moment of time I was unaware of the fact that what I was keeping as pet.
The Neapolitan Mastiff is unique both physically and mentally.Loyalty and companionship to whom it is attached are its passwords.Not only the Neapolitan is deeply affectionate but, when the very necessary degree of rapport has been established between the dog and owner, this breed is so perceptive that I have seen frequently that it reads and is very much able to react to the thoughts of the person to whom it has attached.
As I spent more and more time with the Mastino or the Neapolitan as it is generally called, it beacame a very much cleared omen that the attachment and love a Mastino gives to his owner and certain well wishers are not less than legendary.
I started showing my bitch and after twice rated as Excellent 1 and Very Good 1, I bred her with Wheeler's Oz, a blue male that Mr. Haris Rehman brought to Pakistan from Kim and Rob Wheeler's Leisure Neapolitan Mastiffs from Washington,USA. Wheeler's Oz was also shown in the local dog circuit twice and got Excellent ratings both times. Oz was the great grandson of International American Champion, Elgavilan Dell'Alta Fiumara and grandson of American Champion Ironstone Hermes.
The first litter was born on the 14th of June, 2004 and since then 2 more litters have stepped in this planet. My breedings came to a halt when unfortunately Wheeler's Oz died due to gastric bloat in May 2004, but just after that we imported a new dog from Italy who has sired the current litter Z.
The frequency of my litters is still very low because of the fact that Neapolitan is still a new breed in Pakistan and acquiring sound and type studs is very difficult.
In my terms and beliefs, I currently do not have the best breeding stock of Neapolitan Mastiffs as they are abundant in USA, Eastern Europe or its motherland Italy, but I am striving hard for perfection and by Allah's Grace, the time is not far when excellent and near perfect specimen of Neapolitan Mastiff both in phenotype and genotype willbe seen roaming in the show ring.
